Swedish Style × Time & Style × Orrefors × Claesson Koivisto Rune | Black Hole Vase
Designed by the acclaimed Swedish architecture studio Claesson Koivisto Rune, in collaboration with Sweden’s legendary glassworks Orrefors, this unique object pushes the very limits of glass craftsmanship.
Geometrical, pure, and monumental, the vase redefines what such an object can be. Measuring 60 cm in diameter, it is heavy yet seemingly weightless — resting firmly while appearing to float. As described by its creators:
“Dark, black, yet transparent enough to glimpse within — The Black Hole Vase connects the history of human cultural evolution with the spirit of future discovery.”
This story bridges a century of Swedish innovation. In 1925, Orrefors achieved its international breakthrough at the Paris World Expo. One hundred years later, at Expo Osaka, the same values continue to resonate: innovation, functionality, craftsmanship, timeless aesthetics, and sustainable quality.

Swedish Style
Swedish Style in Japan began in Tokyo at the turn of the millennium and now
celebrates its 25th anniversary! Swedish Style showcased contemporary Swedish culture, fashion, design, music, cuisine, and business to key industry audiences, firmly placing Sweden on Japan’s design map. Many collaborations from that time are still thriving today, and the interest in Sweden remains strong across Japan. This year’s focus is design and export promotion - primarily during DesignArt Tokyo but also through other events highlighting Swedish design in Japan.
Swedish Style is led by Svensk Form and the Swedish Institute in close collaboration with Swedish institutions in Tokyo, including the Embassy of Sweden, Business Sweden, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and long-standing Japanese partners.
