DEBRIS | Rocket Tank Speaker

This project is a collaboration between “noon by material record,” an R&D initiative by Nomura Co., Ltd. and its affiliated companies exploring the relationship between sound and materials, and “&SPACE PROJECT,” an upcycling initiative that seeks to broaden the space industry by creating new value from space-related waste materials. United by the belief that “waste is not the end of a resource, but the beginning of new possibilities,” the teams created an omnidirectional speaker using test-used rocket fuel tanks. The floating, column-like form evokes levitation, while its duralumin body maximizes acoustic clarity with a metallic 360° sound. With support from Taiki Town, Hokkaido, the team captured local environmental sounds—winds across the Tokachi Plains, echoes of the sea, and launchpad beacons—transformed into music by DJ GONNO, embedding memories of space development into the sonic

noon by material record

An R&D initiative by Nomura’s Future Creation Laboratory.
