Interpretation of the Space With Artisans.

SEN-AN

Between Timeframes|SEN-AN is a spatial experiment that reconstructs the traditional culture of the tea room and re-examines “the Japanese sensibility” in the present day. Historically, the tearoom was a place to calm the mind and sharpen perception in harmony with nature. Its essence lies not in style, but in serving as a “spiritual apparatus” that reconsiders time, space, and relationships. This work inherits that spirit while deviating in terms of material and structure, creating a space that stimulates sensitivity through “form” and “ma (interval/emptiness).” We adopted the non-traditional material LGS, redefining it not through modernism but as a “structure that reflects time,” presenting it as a mirror of life in industrialized society. It is not the persistence of objects, but the persistence of a culture that cultivates sensitivity. Tradition is not imitation, but a continuous process of “questioning” and “translation.” With this stance, we will continue our activities. As a first step, we challenged ourselves with an installation of a contemporary tearoom.Available for sale and adaptable to other spaces: ASK

VENUE

AXIS Building B1F-B111

AXIS Design Center was opened on September, 1981 in Iigura-Katamachi, Roppongi, Tokyo. It was part of the first design project led by the private sector and is popularly known as the “AXIS building.” It is also the center of AXIS Inc. which started various activities through Design Magazine AXIS and AXIS Gallery as a “medium to promote design and lifestyles,” and inside the building, directly managed stores such as Living Motif and Le Garage and stores with design mindsets come together. We celebrated our 40th anniversary in 2021, and with the knowledge we have accumulated over many years, we continue to question how design can be significant for society.
