Shinichi Hara
In 1985, Shinichi Hara began his career as a contemporary artist after receiving praise and support from the globally renowned artist David Hockney, leading to his debut exhibition in Los Angeles. Over the next 35 years, while continuing to create paintings, he also worked as an art director, producing key visuals for the music industry and distributing over 100 million visuals across Japan and Asia. In 2009, he made the life-changing decision to fully dedicate himself to his dream of becoming an artist, expanding his activities to Los Angeles, New York, and Hong Kong.
Hara's work explores the animistic energies present in humanity, the Earth, and the universe, juxtaposed with the universal digital energy of '0 and 1' recently discovered by mankind. His childhood, spent surrounded by the natural beauty of Japan’s remote mountains, contrasts with his youth as a computer engineer, where he delved deeply into the world of binary code. This intense immersion led to stress, causing him to retire and experience the duality of digital energy—its light and dark sides. In today’s world, where the overwhelming speed of digital transformation has scarred many souls, Hara continues to depict contrasts such as the soul and the digital, the individual and global systems, life and death, sacred and profane, nature and culture, all through the lens of Eastern spirituality.
