Danish/Japanese design traditionally handcrafted in Japan using natural and pure materials. The word ”gen” is in Danish singular for “gene” and in Japanese the word for “origin”. It is as such and in one word emphasizing the essence of our new brand; The Hirata Gen Collection.
-Vilhelm Hertz
Vilhelm Hertz is a cane and crutch brand created by two Danish craftsmen in 2014. 2018, Miyata lived and worked in the workshop and was put in charge of Japan. In 2019, he started selling Vilhelm Hertz cane and crutches in Japan, but to solve after-sales service and energy problems, Miyata decided to develop a Japan-made cane after dialogues with the Danish craftsmen. In collaboration with highly skilled Japanese craftsmen, Miyata began manufacturing and selling Japan-made products in April 2023. Wooden parts were produced by Hirata Chair Manufacture using scraps of wood from the production of the Hirata Gen Collection. The company's efforts were highly evaluated and won the GOOD DESIGN AWARD Gold Prize in 2022 and the German Design Award for Excellence in the Healthcare category in 2024.
