Pre-Order Sales Product: "KIKYO series "

The "KIKYO series," designed around 1948, is a rare example of Sori Yanagi's work featuring patterns. While Yanagi's ceramics are typically known for their plain, minimalist designs, this is his first design with decorative patterns specifically created for export. After 75 years, using advanced transfer techniques by NIKKO, these designs have been faithfully reproduced in fine bone china. In an era overflowing with products, this masterpiece, made with proven craftsmanship over many years, stands out. The pre-order sales for this series will be conducted at the venue.

”Sori Yanagi” Bone China Series
Based on the "N Series" of Matsumura Hard Porcelain designed by Sori Yanagi in 1952, the production of the Bone China series began at NIKKO Co. after 1990. The material was changed from hard porcelain to bone china, and details were refined to meet manufacturing constraints. The series features a rounded shape that is comfortable to hold

In 1955, the Design Collection was established as Japan's first platform for the Good Design Movement.

Each design carries its own philosophy and story. By carefully tracing these, we can connect with the wisdom, traditional culture, and future of living embedded in objects. All products in the Design Collection are meticulously selected by the members of the Japan Design Committee for their aesthetic value. As practitioners of design, we aim to convey the thoughts and stories embedded in these selected items to you.

【Design Collection Subway Window Display】

During the event, a selection of items from the Design Collection will be displayed in the window at the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line ticket gate. From products that have been loved for many years to newly added masterpieces, you can experience the essence of exquisite design. Please come and see the remarkable designs on display.
The description of a product selection meeting by the founding members in the 1950s
In the early 1950s, the Japan Design Committee, led by 15 enthusiastic individuals including Isamu Kenmochi, Yusaku Kamekura, and Riki Watanabe, was exploring ways to launch the "Good Design Movement." During this period, one of the founding members, Ryuichi Hamaguchi, and his wife Miho, were involved in an exhibition held on the 7th floor of Matsuya Ginza. This event marked the beginning of the relationship between the Design Committee and Matsuya.

The Japan Design Committee members have been engaged in various activities under the banner of "design enlightenment," but the sale of products with superior design quality, symbolized by the "Design Collection," has become one of the major pillars of their activities.
