Reflections of Spaces – Spaces of Reflection

KOTARO NUKAGA, Roppongi is pleased to present ‘Reflections of Spaces – Spaces of Reflection,’ an exhibition of works by German photographer Candida Höfer, which will run from October 14 to December 23. This marks the Cologne-based photographer’s first solo exhibition with us, and will center on her iconic library series. Exploring the very concept of place, Höfer’s images reveal and reflect the forces at play within public spaces through a fresh realist perspective.

BRAND / CREATOR

KOATRO NUKAGA

Founded in Tokyo in 2018, KOTARO NUKAGA acknowledges that contemporary art best reflects present-day society and its future. Taking particular interest in the avant-garde forefront of global art, exhibitions at KOTARO NUKAGA explore radical ideas of both Japanese and international artists. Now with two spaces in Tokyo— Roppongi, a cultural hub bustling with new ideas, and Tennoz, a location that is currently gaining traction as Tokyo’s new center of contemporary art— KOTARO NUKAGA continues to establish its name through the expansion and development of its distinctive gallery program.

At KOTARO NUKAGA, we believe that art has the power to make us critically question our preconceived notions of history and society and the ability to incorporate any and all disciplines, even science and cutting-edge technology, into our methods of thought and expression. Founder and director Kotaro Nukaga envisions his gallery as a place where thought-provoking ideas and daring socio-political confrontations are embraced, and by actively supporting the artist’s journey through the art ecosystem and promoting projects that go beyond the existing framework, we aim to unravel the institutionalized discourse surrounding the the field of contemporary art to showcase it’s full flexibility.

Through a cross-disciplinary lens integrating various cultural and academic fields, KOTARO NUKAGA’s program aims to continue approaching art through its historical, cultural, social, scientific, and aesthetic contexts in order to interpret the past, capture the present, and imagine a boundless future.
